We’ve all done it—worked into the late hours of the morning only to realise that we’re now alone, the staff car park is deserted, and no one knows where we are. Working late and on weekends is often a necessary evil, but it’s important to take precautions to avoid safety issues when you do have to burn the midnight oil.

Manchester Door Supervisors. At Spartan 24 Hour Security we understand that our security services are often the front line defence against loss of revenue, damage to property, unpleasant incidents and aggressive behaviour. The days of a ‘bouncer’ are gone and in their place is the expectation of a professional, stable door supervisor who can diffuse situations.

As a rule we supply door supervisors with the personality for the job. For your business, it is not an unrealistic expectation to ...

When I worked in the security field, one of the biggest complaints I got from clients was that security guard report writing were poor in quality. Whether they are hourly shift or incident reports, they need to be legible, easily understandable, and usable if necessary as a legal document in court.

It would be easy to think that anyone working in such a communications oriented field would know how to write a legible and respectable report. Sadly, even with the constant pressure from clients, m...

Working in hotel security can be a rewarding job, a high level of common sense and being a people person makes the job a lot easier. Security guards protect guests and their valuables as well as hotel staff. They usually patrol the hotel, it’s car park and sometimes the grounds. They also help out on reception when needed and greet new guests and answer any questions. That’s why when working in hotel security it’s vital to know you’re way round the hotel and know how it runs, includin...

It takes a certain kind of person to work as a doorman. In my time I've seen them all, so-called big hard men who go missing when a bad incident occurs. Cocky younger doormen who have plenty of verbal but can't back it up, not forgetting the odd psycho who wants to fight anyone. I remember my first night as a doorman, working at a nightclub for someone. I was put with a tough old bloke, one of the old-school doormen, who acted first and thought about it later. I got rather a lot of exercise w...

In our society it is important to have professional protection and security. Due to the growing crime rates and a reduction in the amount of police officers, a lot more people are having some form of security service in their home and work premises. A security guard service is one of them. Guards are employed to protect people, offices and sometimes homes. There are many security companies that provide such a service, some good others not so good. Decent security guards are well trained, phys...

A simple distinction is sometimes made between ‘traditional’ organised crime and ‘modern’ organised crime. Like all distinctions it is easily exaggerated. Those who make this distinction are usually thinking along the following lines. On the one hand there is a type of organised crime exemplified by the traditional Sicilian Mafia and the Italian-American Mafia – also known as ‘La Cosa Nostra’ ('our thing', or 'our business') and by generations of Hollywood movie makers and Ameri...

The application of CCTV security has not changed very much over the past years, but on the other hand, the tools and equipment have changed significantly. Surveillance cameras have become smaller, cheaper and better, but the major breakthrough has been in the recording equipment. Therefore many customers shopping for complete CCTV monitoring and recording systems are confused by such a veriaty of available products. The goal of this article is to guide buyers toward best possible and m...

The Government’s Organised Crime Strategy ‘Local to Global’ defines organised crime as ‘individuals, normally working with others, with the capability to commit serious crime on a continuing basis, which includes elements of planning, control and coordination, and benefits those involved. The motivation is often, but not always, financial gain’. Organised criminals that work together for the duration of a particular criminal activity or activities are what we call an organise...

Staff in the UK Border Agency have been told their jobs will stay exactly the same - despite the Home Secretary trumpeting sweeping reforms to the under-fire service.
Moments after Theresa May announced the UKBA would be split into two and brought back under her control, an embarrassing staff memo emerged.
It said the workforce would "still be doing the same job in the same place with the same colleagues for the same boss" despite the reforms.

Home Office permanent secretary Mark Sedwill wrote t...

When travelling on your own by foot or public transport, especially to a destination you haven't been to before it pays to stay alert to what's going on around you. Always take your mobile phone and tell a family member or friend you'll call them when you reach your destination. Send them texts throughout your journey so they know you are OK. Take the busiest and most well lit route, if travelling by bus always sit close to the driver. If by train, try and sit in a compartment with other peop...
