Role Of A Security Guard

Posted by Spartan 24 Hour Security on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 Under: Security Guards

In our society it is important to have professional protection and security. Due to the growing crime rates and a reduction in the amount of police officers, a lot more people are having some form of security service in their home and work premises. A security guard service is one of them. Guards are employed to protect people, offices and sometimes homes. There are many security companies that provide such a service, some good others not so good. Decent security guards are well trained, physically fit, experienced individuals who take a pride in their work. Can look after themselves and the clients property and staff.

Security guards are employed in corporate offices and industries with the aim of providing protection to both the employees as well as the office premises. These security guards are required to keep track of the number of people who enter and leave the office, the time of arrival and departure, the reason of visit and so forth. All these details must be recorded in a sign in/visitor log. The security guard also sometimes has the responsibility of protecting important official documents present in the corporate offices.

Some security guards use metal detectors to check visitors and prevent them from carrying weapons into the premises, but that depends on the type of premises being covered and the security company supplying the guard.

Another important responsibility of the security guard is monitoring CCTV. This enables the security guard to closely watch people and places, thereby avoiding illegal activities and problems. Such as theft, physical assault, holding illegal weapons and trespass.

The uses of various kinds of tools also help security guards to maintain peace and harmony. Metal detectors, close circuit cameras, scanners and radios are used by guards to help prevent incidents or to deal with them as quickly as possible if they occur. Security guards are trained to attend to emergency situations and to administer first aid when required. They direct people to safety during emergencies like fire, blasts and power failures.

A professional security guard is an asset to any company, not only protecting the premises, staff and clients. He is usually the first person someone sees when entering the building, so it’s vital the security guard has good verbal and communication skills, not forgetting being uniformed and smart.
